ABC/Fred WatkinsA long-lost Nirvana demo session recorded in 1992 has surfaced online.

The recording was uploaded by drummer Rey Washam, who played in bands including Ministry, Tad and Scratch Acid -- Kurt Cobain was a fan of the latter group. The session featured Washam on drums, Krist Novoselic on bass and Dave Grohl on guitar.

"Dave was obviously new to guitar, but had some songs he wanted to try out with a band," Washam explains. "I had just quit playing in Tad and Dave asked me to come over and 'jam.'"

Washam uploaded 30 minutes of the two-hour session. At around the 24:35 mark, you can hear a riff that sounds like an early version of the In Utero song "Scentless Apprentice."

You can listen to the recording now streaming on YouTube.

Credit: Brantley GutierrezFoo Fighters are ready for some football. The band has released a five-minute short film celebrating their upcoming DIRECTV Super Saturday Night gig in Atlanta on February 2 -- one night before Super Bowl LIII.

In the funny clip, each of the Foos play a member of the Jackalopes football team -- which is even less organized than Paul Crewe's Mean Machine. For example, Dave Grohl plays team captain Larry Butz, who keeps sneaking swigs from his flask during practice, while Taylor Hawkins plays quarterback Bret Rogers, who's more focused on his endorsements than his play on the field.

The Jackalopes' practice, narrated by Fox NFL Sunday host Curt Menefee and analysts Terry Bradshaw and Michael Strahan, doesn't go to well, and eventually comes to an end due to injuries, hallucinogenic drugs and, in the case of Grohl's Butz, getting arrested.

Not only do the Foos portray the players, they also play the cheerleaders. You can watch it all for yourself now on YouTube.

If you were hoping to attend the Atlanta show, it's sold out, but you can still watch it live from the comfort of your own home via the DIRECTV Twitter page. The stream begins February 2 at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Super Bowl LIII will kick off Sunday, February 3 in Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

In other Foo Fighters news, the band will lead a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans on February 14. They'll then play the first shows of the new Fillmore New Orleans concert venue on February 15 and 16.

Robert Knight; ABC/Lou RoccoJourney guitarist Neal Schon has invited his former band mate Steve Perry to attend one of his new side project Journey Through Time's two recently announced shows, which will take place next month in California.

A post on Schon's Twitter feed reads, "here's an Open invitation to Steve Perry to come out on [either] the 22nd or 23rd would love to see you Steve."

Specifically, the concerts are scheduled for February 22 at the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort in Jackson and February 23 at the Fox Theater in Oakland.

Schon's tweet links out to a recent video by prolific classic-rock-themed YouTube blogger The Real Music Observer, who suggested that Neal reach out to Steve and ask his old collaborator to join him at the gigs.

As previously reported, Journey Through Time also features original Journey and Santana singer/keyboardist Gregg Rolie, ex-Journey drummer Deen Castronovo, former Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake bassist Marco Mendoza, Aerosmith and Steven Tyler collaborator Marti Frederiksen on multiple instruments and Chris Collins on guitar and keyboards.

The band will be playing a mix of classics and deep cuts by Journey, as well as some Santana tunes. Tickets to both concerts are on sale now.

After Journey's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in April 2017, Schon told multiple media outlets that he and Perry had reconnected and had spoken of meeting for coffee, but Neal revealed recently that he hadn't seen Steve since the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Perry, whose first solo album in more than 20 years, Traces, was released in October, told CBS Sunday Morning at that time that he wasn't interested in reuniting with Journey.

"I love going forward," he said." I love going to the edge of what's next, and for me that would be a return."

Robert Knight Archive/RedfernsLorna Doom, bassist for the '70s punk band the Germs, has died. The group's drummer Don Bolles confirmed the news in a Facebook post, writing that Doom "left this mortal coil" Wednesday.

Born Teresa Ryan, Doom joined the Germs in 1976 alongside lead singer Jan Paul Beahm, aka Darby Crash, and guitarist Georg Ruthenberg, now known as former Nirvana touring member and current Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear. At one point, the band also included future The Go-Go's frontwoman Belinda Carlile.

Considered a staple of the Los Angeles punk scene and an influence on future punk bands, the Germs released one album, 1979's (GI), which was produced by Joan Jett.

The Germs disbanded in 1980, and Crash died by suicide later that year. The group reformed in 2005 with actor Shane West, who had been cast to play Crash in a biopic titled What We Do Is Secret, on lead vocals. Doom was played by Bijou Phillips in the film.

Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for The Chris Cornell Estate

The "I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell" event at The Forum near Los Angeles was a night of music, passion and stars, but mostly -- as many of the performers noted from the stage -- a celebration of the life of the musician, who died by suicide in May of 2017.
Performers from the Foo Fighters, Metallica and Audioslave to Miley Cyrus and Adam Levine were joined by other special guests, including Brad Pitt introducing a special performance of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" by Chris Cornell's daughter Toni Cornell and Ziggy Marley.

In addition to Pitt, other non-musical guests included Josh Brolin, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Tom Hanks, Courteney Cox, Cameron Crowe, Kaley Cuoco, David Spade and more.

Jimmy Kimmel served as host for the evening. In his opening remarks, he said, "This is an emotional night for a lot of you and it’s a meaningful night for me as well...There are so many great artists here to remember Chris...I think you're going to remember this night for the rest of your life."

Despite pouring rain and traffic in the area, The Forum was packed, and even four hours into the show, the crowd stayed put, sang along and cheered, especially near the end, when Cornell's former bandmates from Temple of the Dog and Soundgarden -- along with special guests like Fiona Apple, Peter Frampton and Taylor Momsen -- played the fan favorites everyone had been waiting to hear.

In addition to the live performances, breaks between sets included videos and photos and clips of some of Chris Cornell's performances, showcasing his talent and especially his legendary vocal range.

A video at the beginning of the night featured celebrities from Jennifer Lopez to George Clooney talking about Cornell's commitment to human rights, adding, "Keep the Promise for Chris Cornell" and highlighting the hashtag #KeepThePromise.

There were emotional elements throughout the night as well as Cornell's bandmates, friends and collaborators shared their memories of Chris, expressing their wish that he could be there.  But at the top of the show, his former bandmates insisted, "Chris is here with us tonight. He has the best seat in the house."

In the middle of the Foo Fighters' performance, Dave Grohl said, "I woke up a little sad this morning because I realized that with all this love, the one person who would have appreciated it the most can't be here tonight."

But Pearl Jam and Temple of the Dog guitarist Stone Gossard said, "I think we're all here for the same reason. I think it's to share and it's to grieve but mainly it's to celebrate...Chris' artistry and to hear his incredible music."

He added, "Here we are now with this loss, this pain, this anger. Families needing healing, fans needing healing, friendships and relationships shattered. And all of our lives still tumbling along without our leader: a sensitive and gifted Irish boy from North Seattle who changed us all."

Chris Cornell's widow Vicky expressed her gratitude, saying, "This event showcases [Chris'] contributions to music history across genres and generations."

And in addition to his daughter Toni's performance, Chris' other daughter, Lily, spoke, saying her Dad had a beautiful gift and made music because he loved it.

The concert raised over $1 million for the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation, as well as The Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation (EMBRF).

For fans unable to make it to the show but who still want to support Cornell's legacy and his Foundation, Kimmel announced that a pair of Chris Cornell limited-edition Gibson guitars, made to honor the late singer, had been signed by many of the evening's artists, and will be up for sale on eBay, with money going to EBMRF.

Foreigner guitarist and band leader Mick Jones has reconnected with the group's original frontman, Lou Gramm, in recent years, including performing together at several special reunion shows in 2017 and 2018.  Now the two may soon collaborate on music again.

Jones tells ABC Radio, "We do indeed have a little trove of unfinished ideas [dating back to before Gramm left Foreigner in 2003] that we've talked about getting together and maybe finishing…And there's some time now…after slogging away this [past] year that we have to consider something like that…you know, bring them to fruition."

Mick points out, however, that Foreigner has a variety of musical endeavors and projects on its plate, so "it's just a question of time" whether he and Lou will be able to complete any of the tunes.

Jones notes that during the past couple years, the band has recorded live acoustic and orchestral albums, and toured in support of both projects, not to mention playing the reunion gigs, which saw Gramm and other original Foreigner members perform alongside the group's current lineup.

"The way these things are popping up, you know, the orchestral thing [and the] acoustic album [and tour]…we've discovered that we can cover a lot of bases," Jones says. "And it makes for a really interesting experience for our fans." (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)

The concert takes place on March 15, and will find the California rockers literally performing in front of the Great Pyramids of Giza.

If you're the kind of person who'd be able to attend a Chili Peppers show at one of the Seven Wonders of the World, visit RedHotChiliPeppers.com for ticket info.

Other artists who've performed at the Giza pyramids include The Grateful Dead, Yanni and Mariah Carey.

In addition to performing at ancient Egyptian architecture, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are also working on a new album, the follow-up to 2016's The Getaway.

The event will take place Friday, January 25, during the 2019 edition of the popular music-equipment trade conference The NAMM Show at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California.

The She Rocks Awards are presented The Women's International Music Network, a.k.a. The WiMN, and acknowledge women who have made important contributions to the music industry.

ABC/Randy HolmesMetallica will perform during tonight's Chris Cornell tribute concert in Los Angeles, and drummer Lars Ulrich has shared his thoughts on the significance of the show.

Speaking to Forbes, Ulrich says, "It's a chance to get together and maybe for some people get a little bit of [resolution] and have a moment that celebrates primarily the music, the creative side. And [the fact that] all the different people from [Cornell's] whole close to 30-year musical journey will be there to celebrate and acknowledge and share is really cool."

Ulrich adds that he's excited "just to see what's gonna happen" during the show, which will also feature performances from Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, The Pretty Reckless' Taylor Momsen, Miley Cyrus and Maroon 5's Adam Levine, among many others.

"I'm sure there are gonna be some Kodak moments and some pretty special things that will come out of the whole thing organically,' Ulrich says. "I look forward, as a fan, more than anything to be part of the night."

Ulrich also hopes that the night will bring a larger focus to mental health issues.

"Hopefully, it'll bring another step and maybe some resolve or start having some public conversation about depression and what this disease does to people and how it affects so many more people amongst us than what we really think," he says. "And how we're probably always much closer to people that are struggling with this on a day to day basis than we truly understand."
